Microcement in Bathrooms
Micro cements are ideal for use in a bathroom or wet room. As they can be applied to plaster, cement, tiles or timber both horizontally and vertically they are perfect for use on floors, walls, shower enclosures, and even countertops.
But which type of microcement should you use in a bathroom?
Using resin-based micro cement, like the ErreLAB products, in bathrooms offers several advantages over mineral-based micro cement, particularly in terms of durability and aesthetic versatility.
Resin-based micro cement is highly resistant to water at every layer, making it ideal for bathroom environments where exposure to humidity and water contact is constant.
Mineral-based micro cements, such as our Politura, get their water resistance from the sealers. If any water gets past this barrier the mineral-based systems work like a blotting paper and the liquid will wick its way across the surface or up the wall. This is why we no longer recommend using mineral-based microcement in a bathroom or wet room. The resin-based options create a non-porous, seamless surface that prevents water infiltration and resists stains.
APPLICATION
The application of resin based microcement in a bathroom is the same as applying a mineral-based microcement, both are built up in thin layers. The main difference is that resin-based microcement materials are usually 2 or 3 components so the mixing is slightly different.
ErreLAB Resin-based Microcement can be applied in thin layers over various substrates including concrete, tiles, plaster, and wood.
The application of resin-based microcement creates a seamless, grout-free surface, eliminating joints where dirt, mould, or mildew can accumulate.
