Can microcement go over tiles?
Yes, on walls and floors, with ErreLAB. It goes straight over existing tiles once they’ve been assessed and prepared, so there’s no demolition and the room is back in use sooner.
The whole system is only 2–3 mm thick, so preparation is everything. The aim is a smooth, stable surface that stops the tile joints showing through, known as “mirroring”.

Preparing tiles for microcement
Get these right and the tiles won’t show through.
Preparation, step by step
- Check every tile is fully bonded. Remove and reinstate any loose or hollow tiles. Cleaning and sanding can show up weak ones.
- Deep clean to remove grease, soap residue, limescale and surface contamination.
- Sand or abrade the tiles to give the primer a key.
- Correct lippage and uneven tiles, fill grout joints completely and level any dips.
- Build carbon fibre or mesh into the base coat to spread stress and stop joints mirroring.
- In pools, changing rooms, wet rooms and busy bathrooms, use a moisture-barrier primer if needed.
- Carry existing movement joints through the microcement.
