What a microcement wall is
Microcement walls are trowelled by hand in thin layers, about 2–3 mm in total, to make a seamless surface with no joints. In many refurbishments the finish can go straight over the existing wall once it’s prepared, without stripping it back.
The look can be smooth and contemporary or more textured, from soft natural tones to concrete and stone effects.

Preparing the wall
Microcement follows whatever’s underneath it, so preparation decides how well the finish lasts.
How to prepare a wall
- Check the wall is stable and sound. Weak or loose backgrounds need strengthening or replacing.
- Assess and repair any cracks, as they’ll show through the finish.
- Detail joints between different materials, and carry movement joints through.
- Prime with the right primer for the background. Ask us if you’re not sure.
Questions about microcement walls
Can it go over wall tiles?
ErreLAB can, if the tiles are well bonded and properly prepared. Politura can’t: the tiles need to come off first. See microcement over tiles.
Can it go in a shower?
Yes, with an ErreLAB resin system. Politura and ErreFast get their water resistance from the sealer, so they’re not for showers.
Can I have samples?
Yes. We post out finished samples and colour charts. Call us on 01472 240 340 or request a sample.
