What it is

Calcare recreates the ‘marked by time’ character of limestone. Tinted Base Pietra is spread in a single coat, then beaten at random with the flat of the trowel and lightly smoothed while still wet, leaving an irregular mix of textured and smoother areas.

Once dry it’s sanded and sealed with one coat of matt Top Clear, or with clear Velatura on walls. The whole cycle takes two days.

Calcare is for indoor floors and walls, including bathrooms and wet rooms. For outside, use Calcare Outdoor from the Pietra Continua Outdoor range.

With an overall build of about 3 mm it’s renovation friendly and goes straight over existing surfaces, and the cycle is up to two days shorter than the other Pietra Continua finishes. It’s scratch resistant, water resistant at every layer and extremely hard wearing.

Top Clear comes in three transparent finishes: Lucido (gloss), Satinato (satin) and Opaco (matt). ErreLAB recommends Opaco for Pietra Continua.

Installation

Best applied by a trained installer. The cycle takes 2 days. The ErreLAB application manual gives full details.

How Calcare is applied

Tint R303 Base Pietra with COLORLAB toner, without water. For walls, add up to 1% Addensante Liquido thickener.
Day 1: spread a single coat of about 1.1 kg/m² with a steel trowel. While it’s wet, beat the surface at random with the flat of the trowel, then lightly smooth it.
Once dry, sand with 80–120 grit discs and vacuum thoroughly.
Day 2: apply one coat of Top Clear Opaco, undiluted and in a thin layer, with a plastic trowel, or one coat of clear Velatura on walls.
