What it is

Basalto is one of the six Pietra Continua finishes. It’s laid like ErreLAB’s classic Spatolato: tinted Base Pietra resin is smoothed on with a steel trowel in two thin coats, giving a uniform, compact surface with the quiet character of volcanic stone.

Base Pietra is a water-based epoxy enriched with lava powder, quartz and mica. It’s hard wearing, stain resistant and water resistant at every layer, and Basalto is sealed with two coats of matt Top Clear.

Basalto is for indoor floors, walls and worktops, including bathrooms and wet rooms. For outside, use Basalto Outdoor from the Pietra Continua Outdoor range.

Top Clear comes in three transparent finishes: Lucido (gloss), Satinato (satin) and Opaco (matt). ErreLAB recommends Opaco for Pietra Continua.

Installation

Best applied by a trained installer. The cycle takes 3 days. The ErreLAB application manual gives full details.

How Basalto is applied

Tint R303 Base Pietra with COLORLAB toner and dilute with 5% water. For walls, add up to 1% Addensante Liquido thickener instead of the water.
Day 1: smooth on the first coat with a steel trowel, as for Spatolato, at about 0.5 kg/m².
Day 2: apply the second coat the same way.
Once dry, sand with 80–120 grit discs and vacuum thoroughly.
Day 3: roll on two coats of Top Clear Opaco diluted with 10% water, 6 hours apart.
